About me
My name is Robert, I am 67 years old. I am the grandfather of Gabriel, a child suffering from bronchiolitis obliterans, a rare and serious lung disease that makes every breath a struggle.
For Gabriel and for all children affected by this disease, I decided to take on a challenge I never would have imagined: cycling across the Alps, alone, without logistical support, at 67 years old, on an electric-assist bicycle.
The electric assist is my oxygen on the bike, just as medical oxygen is Gabriel's and every child's who needs it every day to breathe.
We also created the website for BOcommunity.org, a community platform dedicated to families affected by bronchiolitis obliterans.
The Cause
Bronchiolitis obliterans is a rare lung disease that affects the small airways.
It causes inflammation and fibrosis of the bronchioles, making breathing progressively more difficult. In children, it can occur after a severe viral infection, a lung transplant, or a bone marrow transplant.
Treatments are limited, and research needs support. Affected families face a daily life where every breath counts.
This challenge aims to raise public awareness, support families, and raise funds for the Hope For Gabriel association.
